Links going to mysite.com/mytargetsite.com instead of simply mytargetsite.com

Hi,

I created  some portfolio posts. They get displayed perfectly in the home page using a portfolio shortcode. In every single of them, there is an arrow icon normally pointing at the link specified in the edit page of the portfolio (section description, website).

The issue is that if I enter www.mytargetsite.com in the website field, the link points to www.mysite.com/mytargetsite.com.
The domain of my site is added at the beginning. It is as if it was to point to a page within my own site (so why call the field "website" ? ) I don't get it.

Any idea ?
