Question about Child Theme

I have a quick question about Child Theme. We have used your child theme because we have made a lot of customizations. When we want to update your theme how do we do it? Do we just delete the normal theme and reupload it? And which theme should be active the child theme or the real theme?

You have to update the parent theme, and keep the child theme active at all times.
