WPBakery update fails

Hi,

on our live site we have version 8.0.1 and the BeTheme plugin panel shows a blue Update button for 8.4.1.

Clicking the update button results in [VC shortcodes on the live site and the plugin is either deactivated or is no longer listed - I've seen both behaviours. I have to restore the js_composer directory to get back to a functioning site but then we're still on 8.0.1.

Theme version is p to date

Your version 28.0.6.

We have 7 months left of our support.

I suspect permissions but can't be sure. The plugin file is writeable by the webserver. Does the uppdate process expect all of wp-content to be writeable?

TIA

  • Hi Phil,

many thanks for your response. I had 2 different questions, one in each discussion so it was not my intent to duplicate discussions.

In this one there is no question about the licence because this is the live site and the api.muffin checker reports it as all good. Instead here I'm asking about permissions.

On my other discussion I'm not asking about permissions but licenses. I've purchased renewed support but get,"Invalid license code. Please make sure that your purchase code is used only on this domain. You can check it at: api.muffingroup.com/licenses"

which is different to the live site. Hence the 2 different questions:

    • file perms (affects live site)
    • licencing (affects dev site)

I hope thats OK, the solution for one will be different to the solution for the other.

Many thanks again for your response.

  • Sorry for the misunderstanding, I did not get the initial question in your first message.

Anyway, I might still not completely get what your problem is exactly.

Please attach screenshots showing what you refer to for a better understanding.

    Thanks

  • Thanks Phil. I

fear screenshots won't show much but here they are.

You can see blue update button in one s/shot and then you can see the consequences to the front-end on the other.

The js_composer directory either ends up empty or with significant files missing afterwards. Thats the final screenshot, it shows a dir listing of the includes sub-dir which is empty. That means when I re-visit the plugin update panel the Update button doesn't work anymore and I have to restore from a backup.

    Many thanks

    for your time.

  • Please send us the WordPress dashboard and FTP access privately through the contact form, which is on the right side at https://themeforest.net/user/muffingroup#contact and we will check what might be the reason.

    Notice!

Please attach a link to this forum discussion.

Sending incorrect or incomplete data will result in a longer response time.

Therefore, please ensure that the data you send are complete and correct.

    Thanks

  • The contact form is sent over email which is not secure. The live site contains personal data, GDPR prevents us sharing that data with you.

Given they way you're trying to update the plugin I'm wondering if process time might be the problem here? This would explain the varying number of files left behind in the js_composer directory.

  • Note that you can, or even should, create a temporary user for WP and FTP, which you can immediately remove after we check what is wrong with your website.

Unfortunately, without access and checking directly on your website, we are not able to help as only a description of the problem and screenshots of it do not tell us much in this situation.

    Best regards
