This is because you have selected the thumbnail size when creating the slider in VC. Edit the slider and select a different image sieze than thumbnail.

Ive just talked with the dev team and it looks like there is no way of placing the slider into the header of the single post. The slider will appear below the header where the featured image appears.

Please make sure that the max_input_vars value is set to higher. It is now 1000 but it should be about 5000. You might have to contact your hosting provider to change it.

It is appearing in the widget section, where would you like it to appear exactly? The red box is the subheader, you can disable it in theme options>subheader globally.
