it's still under construction. just begining to build.

i want the image/header at the top to be higher/taller.

the image is 1920*340. on my screen the image in the header is only about 160px high.

Ok. So to increase header height, you can use below css:

body.header-below:not(.template-slider) #Header { padding-top: 300px !important; }

it solves the problem only on desktop, but on mobile, on screen smaller than 750px wide, suddenly a black area of 200px-height appears.

how do i avoid it?

Sorry, we forgot to tell you that this can be increased on desktop only. Please use below css instead:

@media only screen and (min-width: 768px) { body.header-below:not(.template-slider) #Header { padding-top: 300px !important; } }

i don't want a slider, now there is a black area 160 pixel high, under the logo.

why? how do i remove it? can i configure it in theme-options?

This is header background feature. If you don't need it, please turn ON "Header | Minimalist" option under Theme options > Header & Subheader > Header section.
