Menu item padding

I have a problem with BeTheme... I've had to manually add left and right CSS padding (li.page_item { padding: 0 30px; }) to the menu links because they were all bunched up together when I choose almost any header layout. The one I want to use is Stack Center. Why is this?

Also, is there a way to completely remove a header image so the menu sits directly on the page title?

You don`t need to add any css for menu items. They are close together because you did not setup menu in Manage locations section. Everything was described at http://forum.muffingroup.com/betheme/discussion/3/how-to-create-own-menus
