widget or imagebar beside logo in header

I am just designing a layout for the library and before I decide on a header style I wanted to know if I can actually use the space to the right of the logo either to place images or put some kind of widget for example that gives the library's hours. . . like the way right now there is some kind of ad for MAXCDN.

Please let me know if that is easy to do . . . and how if it can bone through the theme. Also, right now I have a lot of empty space between the bottom of the menu and the start of the page. Looks now like a thick black band. Can I put stuff there?? Thank you, Emily

this is possible with Magazine header type only. This header got possibility to use banner in header on the right side what you can see one one of our pre-made layouts like http://themes.muffingroup.com/be/charity2/

Not sure what you call this area of the screen between the menu and top of the page but it sure is a big waste of space!

Can you tell me how to make use of it (put images there) or remove it? Thank you! Emily

This is header's background. If you want to put the image there, you must use Featured Image option which is on the right hand side when you edit/create pages. But if you don't need it, simply activate Minimalist header under Theme options > Header & Subheader > Header section.
