Can't import demo data

Hi,

I've installed the Theme but when I try and install the demo data I get the following message in WOrdpress.

WordPress function wp_remote_get() test failed. Looks like your server is not fully compatible with WordPress. Contact your hosting provider.
Error: Failure when receiving data from the peer

I contacted my hosting provider who said that there isn't an issue on the server, so just wondered what it could be? If this is a server issue please can you let me know what spec it needs to run it?

Best Regards
Mark

    Hi Mark,

Looks like your server does not support wp_remote_get() function which is a default WP function btw. wp_remote_get() uses loopbacks and this could be the reason why you are unable to import complete pre-made layout. So or you will contact with your admin and ask him if he can remove those limits for you or you need to import demo without paying attention to errors and after that import muffin options manually.

More details about similar issue you can read on http://forum.muffingroup.com/betheme/discussion/12103/wp-remote-get-demo-download-no-header-menu-of-footer-settings where a problem was a little bit different but the solution may work for you as well.

    Thanks!
  • Hi,
Unfortunately my host admin can't remove those limits so I've tried to follow your instructions, but have a few questions...

    1. How do I import the demo without paying attention
to errors? There is no option in WP for me to do this. Is it possible to do this via FTP?
    2. I then followed your link which said: "3. Under the dashboard, please navigate go to Theme Options > Import & Export section and click "Import from File" button." Again there is no option to do this via BeTheme options or Tools > Import.

Please can you assist further? I'm excited to get going with this theme but could do with the demo data to see how you've worked a few areas.

    Thanks
    Mark

  • 1. No, you can not import demo via FTP because for that part is responsible PHP. Like we wrote above, you should just try to import demo thru '1 click installation' feature and then import settings manually http://forum.muffingroup.com/betheme/discussion/6679/manual-import-of-muffin-options-panel

    2. Yes, we are sorry about that. Import & Export has been replaced with Backup & Reset section.

I have tried importing the demo data through '1 click installation' as you suggested but it doesn't work. I just get the error message below and nothing happens with no further options to install anything.

I've contacted my host and they said there's nothing they can do. The server is running a Wordpress site already so is compatible and I don't have the option of moving the site somewhere else.

Is there nothing else I can do to import the demo data please?

If there are no other options can you please let me know what spec the server needs to be so I can discuss it with my current provider? Thanks
  • So you are telling us that you can not import demo at all? Wow, this is first time when we met with such situation. Your sever must be very poor then. That's really unbelievable that it's even not possible to import with errors. Also, please do not tell us that your server is Wordpress ready because it's not. If you look at https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_remote_get you will see that it's default WP function what means your server is not fully compatible with Wordpress.

All spec, you can find under Appearance > System Status section.

    Thanks!
  • Yes that's right, nothing! I can't upload an image here to show you but that is certainly the case.

The server is already hosting a Wordpress site but I'll refer your comments to them to see what they can suggest. If it's not possible the site I'll have to move servers.

Can you recommend a host where you don't encounter these sort of issues?

    Thanks!
  • We used servers like OVH, GoDaddy or MediaTemple and did never had any issues with them. Also many of our customers use those as well without any issues.
