Child Theme functions.php

Wanna reduce number of thumbnails.

I normally edit function.php as per attached pic. in main theme. http://i68.tinypic.com/23iawp1.png

Please let me know what i should do to incorporate same in child theme function.php

this requires files customization what in reference to Item Support Policy is not allowed. So if you want to modify files and don't know how, you should contact with your web developer.
