Add a sidebars to some pages

Hi there,

How do I create custom sidebar widgets that I can select from on the page I want to add it to?

I've selected the sidebar layout to be on the lefthand side, below that i would like to choose which sidebar to appear on the page but when i click nothing shows on the dropdown menu. I went to the widgets page to create a new widget with a custom menu in it, but i don't see where i can add custom widgets? I've never had problems with other themes before?
