Help with Localization

I am trying to localize into italian one string just to test localizing the theme. I decided to start with the word "days" from the Countdown.

I created pt_IT.po and pt_IT.mo files with PoEdit in which i localized only "days" (i started by opening one of the po files in the theme).

I copied them into \wp-content\themes\betheme\languages

I then set the wordpresss language to Italian (from wordpress settings).

I then try to open a page  that contains a countdown item i still see "days" in english.

I do not undesrtand what am i missing, can you please suggest?

Thanks.

  • Hi,

at first glance, it looks fine. But if it does not work, we suggest to have a look closer on article where this was explained https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/tools/poedit/ - please also make sure you don't use any cache stuff. Remove all extra plugins as well.
  • I double checked everything,

Finally i was lucky enough to stumble in the po file into this string:
    "
Turn it off if you want to use .mo .po files for more complex translation.
    "

So immediately i got the provblem: i disabled betheme translations and it worked!

I found out "Loco Translate" plugin who avoids using poedit and i can translate inside wordpress.
