edit category page

edited June 2016 in Blog

Hi,

I don't understand how to add a sidebar to a blog category page and how to edit its look. I uploaded a template to a test site to check how you did it and I still can't figure it out.

This page is similar to what I want to achieve:

http://312.29b.myftpupload.com/category/stories/

I notice that it's not an actual page with editing functions, but instead it's a category and is set up that way in the menu. So, how did you add the sidebar and customize the look of the page when it's a category? There's no option on the top wordpress bar to "edit page." The only option is "edit category." Your blog page doesn't have any content other than the sidebar:

After copying everything the best I could to my template, my category page looks like this:

http://a0d.7d8.myftpupload.com/category/news/

The address is similar to  http://312.29b.myftpupload.com/category/stories/ but your "page" has a sidebar and the post content (such as the featured image appearing to the left instead of top) looks nicer. How can you edit that page when the only option on top is "edit category"?

I need a wrapper behind my blog posts on the category page and I also need a sidebar. I want it to look like yours, except using my template's colors. And I've tried everything to duplicate what you did but I'm lost.

I'll send my login info now.

Thank you.
