Update the main theme

Am using only the main theme that´s because I forget to install the child theme also.

Will it be problem to only update the main theme?

Can I install the child theme now and activate it?

Child theme is unnecessary and if you are not planning to modify theme files, there is no need to install it. And yes, you can only update the main theme of course.
