Change Pre-Defined Skin Colors With Custom CSS

Can you give me an example of the code required to change the colors of a pre-defined skin and where to put the custom css?

I want the menu bar colors reversed.  The darker brown for the text color and gold (#fcc02a) for the background color of the menu area.
