sorry if im being a total novice here, but in the docs it says muffin builder and visual composer are both able to be used to edit the theme/ build the site.
But I cannot see either.
Should they not be in the appearance section of wordpress?
No, they are no there. Both are available on pages while you edit/create them. Visual Composer can be used instead of default wordpress editor but Muffin Builder is in "Page options" section. But of course Visual Composer must be installed first if you want to use it.
