Linking image to Gallery popup

Hi there,

I need to add a series of images to my homepage. Each image should open up a popup of other images that pertain to the original image (not to the image shown next to it on the same page). For example, the first image would be of Vancouver, clicking this image will open a popup of other images of Vancouver. The image next to the Vancouver image would be of Toronto, clicking this image will open up a popup of other images of Toronto. Basically, I just want 1 image to link to popups of other images, not to a whole new page. Is this possible? If so, which shortcode option would be best to achieve this and what would a link to a popup gallery look like?
