slow load speeds

after a lot of examination appears some of the load speed problems are caused by

The GT test says it connects but there is absolutely no reference to that file
anywhere on the server at all. So where does it pull up from?
Any ideas how this could be?

we recommend to use W3 Total Cache plugin to speed up your site. We use it on our demos and as you can see on https://tools.pingdom.com/#!/eHGrPw/http://themes.muffingroup.com/betheme/ the results are pretty good (loading time with all these media and plugins included is about 1 second).
