Responsive text column

Hi, on my site http://lca.search-for.me.uk/ I have 3 columns, the left and right an image, and the centre one text. When the site resizes the text width decreases and the height increases proportionately so it exceeds the height of the images. Is there a way I can avoid this ?

Is it possible to increase the side margin width on full width layout ? (http://lca.search-for.me.uk/)

Ie the margins are quite small, and I'd like to position the columns with a margin of say 50 to 150 pixels. I ried the 1/6th place holder but its way too wide.
