Is there a way to add rounded edges to the main navigation with custom image/css similar to the one on the attached image?

But can it be done for BE theme navigation, and if so, how?

You would have to go to theme options>global>general and mark the header as transparent
Then find a background like this and append it to the menu on your website.
This should be a PNG file since it has transparency

I don't have those yet. Just want to know what CSS object ( eg. #Top_bar , etc.) should I attach the background image to in the custom css section.

Yes, you can use the #Top_bar, but I do not think this will work with this header since there is another background behind it.
