Thanks but that made the entire page one color. I was hoping that the blog post section could remain white. While the 2 sides remained the same color.

Use this css additionally

body.blog #Wrapper #Content .content_wrapper {
	background-color:white !important;
}

Please also check your custom css, you missed a couple of ; and }

Yes, you can do that by enabling the subheader, but it will only display the title and breadcrumbs.
Globally set the subheader in theme options>header&subheader>subheader
or locally on page edit.
