Main sidebar - background color

greetings, i am trying to change the main sidebar background color. As this block is not configurable in the options can it be done with custom CSS?
I am running the "Shop" theme, but only this sidebar is required to get from Red in to custom color - for example medium gray.

Here is the "block" that i am trying to change the Red in to medium gray:

only with custom css, try this

.widget_product_categories ul {
	background-color:blue !important;
}
