Change hambuger dropdown characters to arrows

I have a client who would like me to change the default + and - characters for menu items that have submenus. She would like me to change them to the Black Up-Pointing Triangle [Links visible only for registered users] and Black Down-Pointing Triangle [Links visible only for registered users] unicode characters. I've found a few places where those menus are referenced, but it looks like those characters are set in inline css.  

Can you show me where to change these for the menu system, particularly the hamburger menu?
