Remove the bar above and below the subheader

Hello, I am trying to remove the large black bar at the top of every page (below the header area) that may or may not be the subheader. I don't know if it is because I tried the background image on the subheader to see if it filled in that black bar and it did not. It showed up at the bottom of that bar and underneath the title/breadcrumbs. 

In addition, this is an excessively large space after the title/breadcrumbs that looks unsightly. I can't figure out why that is there either. I did remove the love and share areas - but that gap remained.

    HI,

    1. To remove the black bar go to theme optiosn>header and choose the minimalist option to : minimalist without header space.
    2. This space can be only reduced by disabling the content padding option. You can do it globally in  theme options>global>advaced, or for each page in page options.
