Buttons not setting up correctly

When I add the button with icon element, I make the background blue and the font white. The background doesn't go blue, rather only the border goes blue and the background stays wide. Also there seems to be no option to set the hover colour, it just goes to light grey.

I then tried adding this short code from your demo -

[button title="Button with icon" link="#" target="" icon="icon-download" icon_position="left" color="#417298" font_color="#fff" size="" full_width="yes" class="" download="" onclick=""]

I still get a blue border with white background and white text. What do I need to add to the shortcode to make the background blue and the hover a colour of my choice?

The problem of buttons is related to the style of these buttons, already it's set to "Stroke" - so it will not have any background color inside.

To change that, please switch button style (to default or flat), you can do it in theme options > global > general
