Update the Theme on Staging

I need to make a theme update and typically do major changes on our staging server rather than the live site in case anything breaks. 

According to what you have told others here I must deregister the theme. Is this deregistering it fo only staging or both websites?

Hey,

What I would suggest you do is use a separate license key for the development/staging website.

Register the key on the main domain and then create unlimited websites on subdomains, using the same license.

Only when moving the website to the destination  should you deregister it first.

I assume the second license key has a fee?

Yes, ofcourse. Once license key can be used only for one domain.

You can always use the same key to build the website, then deregister it, move the website and register again.
