Why are Template post type gets published publicly?

Aren't templates for internal use? Why are they getting public once the post is "Published"? Example: https://somewebsite.tld/template-item/template-slug/ is viewable by anyone. Is this expected? What's the use case for that?

Hi,

I do not understand the question.

If you don't want to publish some kind of page, then just save it as "Draft" or change the "Visibility' of it to "private"

Template is not something should ever be published. I'm wondering what's the use case of them being published (public to the world) ever?

You could use them to make your work faster.

I mean, if you have a lot of pages which has the same content before footer, you can create a template which will be used to "paste in" the content into the muffin builder instead of creating it from scratch.

I know what Templates are for. My question was why they are ever published to the world. Templates are an internal feature, and very much not for the world to see.

Okay, my bad.

It's because of wordpress limitation.

If you will set the "private" or hide it for public this page cannot be reached by templates.

The only way to make it work is by leaving it published.

Thanks for confirming. Well, neither is a good option, sadly. Don't publish -- can't use it. Publish -- let the world explore your templates. My only suggestion is maybe some other way should have been used to store templates.
