Layer Slider: License activation is required to receive updates

When we try to update the Layer Slider plugin via the theme > Install Plugins, we get the following error message: 

"License activation is required to receive updates. Please read our online documentation to learn more."

We do not receive errors on any of the other bundled plugins, so not sure what is happening with Layer Slider. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
