Parallax theme, change opacity

Good afternoon everyone,

I've just started using Betheme and I'm currently customizing the Parallax pre-built website. I am looking for a way to make the first element (the one with the button to shop) semi-transparent, so that the background behind it is still visible. I tried experimenting with the background color, but setting the opacity to 0.5 won't reveal the element behind, it will just make it more gray-ish. I've tried adding Z-indexes to both the background and the element itself but this didn't work too. Finally, I've tried with some custom CSS but still no results.
Can you please help me?
