How to update a license?

What  should I do to update a Be|theme license safely?
The website https://autodentquality.com already has a license, but the update option is not working.
Reading answers in this forum I suppose that the license was used in another domain for the agency that created the site.
We decided to buy today another license  and then we want to update the license and do the updates.
The strange thing is when we insert the Purchase code, Envato username , click in Show licenses in the page below:
We receive the following message:
Wrong username or purchase code.
Please use only purchase codes that has been used to register the theme and the username used at the time of purchase.

    The Envato username is ok because I'm able to login in Envato 
    Purchase code is the same that I got in purchase receipt

    About the update, it was easy.
    I just renamed the old one, uploaded the new and in admin inserted the license key.
    After that I was able to update all bundled plugins.
