Site is broken: receiving message: "There has been a critical error on your website."

The formatting of the site is completely off - the header and footer are missing, fonts are wrong, etc. I'm assuming the problem is related to the fact that I cannot upgrade 2 crucial plug-ins -- LayerSlider and WP Page Builder. When I try, Wordpress tells me "The package has failed. The package contains no files" and/or that the "Update package is not available." I'm also receiving these messages when I try to update the theme (BeTheme). I also notice that the URLs for various pages are strange. For example, http://u4s.ade.myftpupload.com/contact-us/
