Hello,
1) To prevent displaying this area go to: Betheme > Theme Options > Header & Subheader > Header, and in section "Minimalist" select "Minimalist without Header space" from dropdown menu.

2) Sorry, but this cannot be changed, because it is hardcoded in Betheme.
You can change permalinks in "Settings > Permalinks", but this will change for all pages.
