Gaps in between portfolio columns at 2560x1440 screen resolution

At a screen resolution of 1920x1080, the flat 3 column portfolio thumbnails display excellently at full width in a full screen browser window without any gaps in between the columns. I am using the portfolio category as a page link. The thumbnails are automatically generated at 640x500px even when I upload larger landscape photos which causes a problem when I make the browser window full screen on a dispaly with a resolution of 2560x1440. There are giant gaps in between the columns because the photo thumbnails are stuck at 640x500px. What can I do to fix this problem? Here is an example of what I mean:

Hi,

did you changed add_image_size() function under functions/theme-functions.php file which is responsible for portfolio images?

That did work for me, thank you. The only problem I have now is that if I have, for instance, 10 boxes that I want to display in 3 or 4 columns, there are always blank spaces at the bottom. I can live with it for now but I may just use another plugin for a more dynamic display of images.
