Page scroll to anchor links not working on wp-5.6 with one-page option selected

edited December 2020 in Theme support

I've got a number of anchor links in my menu (eg #how) which are set to sections of the front page and used to scroll correctly to the indicated id.

Following the upgrade to Wordpress 5.6 (which I think included some jquery changes) the "scroll-to-id" javascript included with the theme seems to have stopped working. So:

Old behaviour (pre-5.6): Click on a menu anchor / id item used to result in a smooth scroll to that id and section on the front page

Current behaviour (post-5.6): Click on a menu anchor / id item results in no scroll in Chrome and Safari and a scroll to the id in FIrefox, immediately replaced by a jump back to the head of the page.

Workaround: Deselect the "Single page" option in muffin builder and the anchor links work correctly (but without smooth scroll).

All testing was done with cacheing and page optimisation plugins disabled to make sure nothing was interfering with the scripts.

I've attached a text file with my setup and plugins.

  • Hi,

Please always attach a link to your website so we can check it out. If the page is offline(localhost) then our help will be limited, you will have to contact us when the page is online. Also please make sure that the page is not under maintenance before you provide us the link.

It is always a good idea to also attach a screenshot, for that use services like snag.gy or pasteboard.co

    thanks

  • OK quick update - this turned out to be a classic example of not following process - entirely my fault.

An update script hadn't been run so the theme was 2 point versions out of date - should have checked and apologies.

  • Do not apologize. It is excellent that you found the source of the problem.

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

    Best regards
