Remove/hide 'featured image' under header

How can I remove or hide the featured image that shows under header? when select a featured image, it shows under header, when no image is selected, I have a colored background (which i can make transparent but want to be able to get rid of that gap)

BTW, i am running this install locally, before going on the web
