Static CSS Caused Significant Changes In Page Appearance

My pages are loading very slowly, so I thought I would implement static CSS as described here:  http://themes.muffingroup.com/betheme/documentation/#static-css

I copied the entire contents of the style.php and style-colors.php files into the bottom of the style-static.css file and saved style-static.css. 

I then went to the Advanced page of the Global settings and turned Static CSS on and hit "Save".

When I refreshed my site, all of the fonts had changed.  Worse yet, the heading photo was no longer displaying at the top of the pages and instead a solid black background was displayed.

I turned Static CSS off for now.  What did I do wrong?

For sure you copied PHP content from files on FTP instead of css code which is the result of those files under the browser.
