My theme wont update

I am currently unable to update my theme. Originally i had it on a staging website (

STAGING_URL ) but now the production URL is ( PRODUCTION_URL) do i need to Deregister the theme on that API URL ( https://api.muffingroup.com/licenses/ ) ? I dont want deregister and lose data. what is the proper way to do this?

Also, another issue I'm having is I can't author new content on existing pages, my assumption here is that is due to the theme update issue.

  • Hi,

    1) All of the themes on the Envato market are under the same license. Details: https://themeforest.net/licenses/standard.

You can use one license per end product to use any pre-built website you desire or mix them, but you cannot use the theme license on two domains.

The only exceptions are for subdomains, subfolders, or staging domains that follow an appropriate pattern. You can register unlimited subdomains with one license key if the main domain is registered under the same key.

This also applies to subfolders on localhost installations.

About the staging domain, you can read under the following link:

    https://support.muffingroup.com/how-to/how-to-set-up-betheme-staging-site/

    2) What builder are you using? Did you try disabling your plugins?

    Thanks

Currently, i cannot update the theme

Downloading update from https://api.muffingroup.com/theme/download.php (removing for security)

    Unpacking the update…

Warning: unlink(/tmp/download-gaoq6j.tmp): No such file or directory in /home/customer/www/(removing) .com/public_html/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-upgrader.php on line 334

    Installing the latest version…

    Theme update failed.

An error occurred while updating Betheme: The package could not be installed. The package contains no files.

    Disabling Maintenance mode…

    All updates have been completed.

Also I cannot make basic content updates on my site. I am assuming this is because of the theme issue. when i check my license on the API its says its for the temporary URL that the staging site held until the DNS could be switched. The server is exactly the same the URL just changed.

I need to know before i proceed, what will happen if i deactivate the theme and reactivate it under the new URL. will my content get wiped? do i need to backup beforehand?

  • This message could mean that your license key is used on multiple domains. Please use the license manager to handle your license keys: http://forum.muffingroup.com/betheme/discussion/36219/cannot-register-deregister-your-license-key-use-this-tool#latest.

If you see (on our license manager) that your license key is registered on a single domain, then please disable all of the plugins and deregister that license key (through the BeTheme -> Dashboard).

After that, get into the license manager once more. If the license key is still claimed - deregister it. If it’s not, register it again on your domain (through the BeTheme -> Dashboard) and try to update your theme a couple of times (usually, it passes after 2-3 attempts) - remember, all of the plugins have to be disabled.

Nothing will be wiped out because all data is stored in a database. Notice that if you are unsure, it is always good to create a backup of your website for what. I suggest using the Duplicator plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/.

    Thanks
