create templates from existing complete pages

Hi

I have a number of pages created for my website, i wanted to have a copy of them either as a template or a page layout. which is better / difference? I wish for them to be able to re-create the page as it is. can you please tell me from the existing pages

1. how to create a page layout ( i.e. styles, empty blocks etc.)
2. A template to recreate the page as it is now.

Effectively I wish to have a backup of the pages, so they can be reset should anything go wrong when editors are editing, my server has a daily backup on a site and db level but i would like it on a page level for editors of the site.
