Media library assets removed

Hello there,

2 days I'm using the theme now and almost everything went fine until now...

I started building my website with one of the template theme, everything was OK and smooth (Had a bit of a hassle with polylang at that time but nothing impossible to fix quickly).

Then when I checked the front page today... all image assets were missing. They still "registered" into the media library, but it's like they have been deleted somehow... It impacts of course all image assets using components like the front slider etc...

Don't really know what is happening, I was thinking of an image CDN problem but that's a bit odd tbh. I enabled recommended performance options yesterday on the theme option, along with some of the jetpack boost features (which I deactivated right away as the website was loading slowly afterward).

It's the first time that happens to me on number of websites I launched with a theme...

I anticipate the question: I have another website on the same server running same version of Wordpress (with a different theme), and I don't have this problem.

Thanks,

Romain

Small update: If I re-run the setup and choosing only assets I want (I tried with the slider atm), it re-import correctly images... but until when?

I also tried with content, but no image recovery

  • Hello,

Please, turn off all of the plugins, refresh your cache, and check if the problem persists.

Moreover, if you use a child theme, switch to parent, and recheck it.

It also looks like it be related to the server, so I also suggest consulting this issue with your hosting provider.

    Thanks

  • Hello,

The answer doesn't help a lot.

I will try things you mentioned first, but it's quite hard to get a direct answer right away, in my case it happened overnight.

No Child theme here, just the parent.

And you right, it looks like it's a server kind of problem (cron?), but as I said and I repeat, I have another wordpress website on the same server, and no problem with the other one... so it's unlikely to be the problem here. I will check anyway if settings are -still- the same between these two.

Also, in the meantime, I tried to reimport the whole website 3-4 times (via the setup wizard), with a database reset, and it looks like I got no images imported, just empty placeholders in the media library, exactly like the screenshot I sent on the first message. ..

    Thanks,

    RR

  • As it looks like a server issue, it is best to report that to the hosting provider/server administrator.

If they do not find anything, or find that it is somehow related to Betheme itself I will ask you to send us WP dashboard access and FTP access privately.

  • Hello,

To update on the subject, it seems the problem has several layers: Jetpack CDNs and the plesk server stack (on ubuntu 18 LTS)

1- While jetpack wants to serve images via its CDN (i1.wp.com), it forgot to declare it properly, hence providing bad url schemes... not sure if it's related to the theme or some kind of incompatibilities, should be better to deactivate jetpack...

2- My plesk stack server works well "as it", and not anymore after I "fix" it: As of now, I'm unable to update it because of missing public keys, but if I fix this problem (retrieving missing keys / cleaning repos and clearing cache) it seems my server stop serving my websites...

So, I decided to stop looking for solutions on my legacy server and re-build a new instance from scratch, I guess I will not get the problem this way. Keep you updated if I do :)

    Best,

    RR

  • Thanks for the update. I hope it will be helpful for others with the same problem.

    Best regards
