How to create a child theme for existing website
I'm managing a webiste someone built with Betheme (version 27.2.5). To make the site more secure we have purchased a lifetime license to be able to do updates. There is currently no child theme for our site:
As some customization has been done to the site I would like to create a child theme of the existing site before updating the theme. There is plenty of info on how to create a child theme for a new site but not for an existing site.
Also I can't find how to submit a ticket for support within the support centre. If I go to submit ticket it just brings me to the discussion forum...

sorry i made a mistake, the current version on our website is 20.9.7.2
When I try to update the theme via WP dashboard without creating a child theme an error message comes up:
An error occurred while updating Betheme: The package could not be installed. The package contains no files

Hi Phil, the link you sent regarding child themes is just for new websites. It doesn't tell me how to create a child theme for an existing site (which has been created using Betheme and then customisations have been made without having created a child theme previous to customisations). I need to update the theme for this site for security reasons (currently it's on version 20.9.7.2) but of course if I update the theme I will loose all customisations.
So i need to create a child theme using the existing theme with customisations as a base.

You must upload the child theme and move all your modifications from the parent theme to the child.
