Active pages style (current-menu-item) do not work with custom header template

Hi there!

I've made a custom template for the header and one for the footer (both sets for all the pages in the site) but the header one is not working properly: it doesn't show the style for the active pages (it's just a simple different color from the "normal" state). Even in the console there's no css class(current-menu-item). The weird thing is that the menu in the custom template for the footer works just fine, but the header only works with "hover" but no "active".

Am I missing something? What should I do to make the menu work and highlight the active page?

Thanks in advance
