Custom Post Type Sidebars

Hi, I am trying to add sidebar support, but it appears very difficult with the way betheme is setup.  For example, I was going to replace sidebar.php in a child theme, but you still need to overwrite mfn_sidebar_classes() which doesn't have a if_function_exists checker so you can't overwrite it, and thus it seems you can't display sidebars the same way bethemes does.  Is there a good approach to this?
