Transferring a staging site to replace an existing site with a different theme

Dear BeTeam,

We are currently operative using the enfold theme on vanleersum.nl. This website has the proper SEO and SERP position. However, we are almost done creating the new website at stagingvanleersum.nl using the BeTheme. We make this second site to design it with BeTheme without losing the functionality of the original site.

Firstly, eventually, staging.vanleerum.nl will change to vanleersum.nl. does this mean that we need a new licence? Only one site will be operational, but the URL will change. Can you clear this up for us and prevent problems we may experience with the changing of the web adress?

But more importantly, we are now in the process of replacing the old site with the new, but we are scared to lose our SEO and SERP position because we do not understand google indexing that well. Can you advise us on how to replce the current website without losing the indexing on goolge? What approach should we take towards replacing the web-adress?

We are looking forward to your response,

Kind regards,

Janik Slob

  • Hi,

    1) You will not need a second license for this domain, as staging domains do not count as used licenses. See the following article to learn more about it:

    2) It would be best to contact the SEO specialist to know how Google rates, as it changes dynamically nowadays. From our side, I can tell that changing the theme will not have a big impact if you keep your heading structures and content, assign alt text to your images, and set up the site title and site description. Remember also to redirect all inactive URLs to prevent 404.

    Best regards
