Help!

Hi there

Please excuse my ignorance. I am not the person who developed the website, but I do update it when i need to. I am getting the following message (and have been for a while) and haven't really don't anything about it. I have to now as I need to change things urgently. The website works fine so I left it alone.

    Please turn off all of the plugins, refresh your cache, and check if the problem persists.

    Moreover, switch from child to parent theme, and recheck it.

  • Okay - so I've tried all of these. Going to parent theme has changed the homepage- which isn't very nice. I deactivated all the plugins too - then changed the theme editor - still no change.

    I am at a loss

  • I've just realised that we were having this conversation in January 2021!!!

    Nothing has changed since.

    I really need this fixed urgently and need some advise on net steps please!

    Glad to hear you've received the credentials.

    So i just need to be able to make changes to the home page.

    If you try to edit the page via muffin builder and make a change (remove the mailchimp subscription for example - which is what I want to do) it doesn't save and throws up an error on the page - which I detailed in the above messages.

    Tracing the error and resolving the error has been a struggle for me.

  • I can see that you have an ancient version of Betheme installed (14!).

    First of all, please update it to the newest version. To do so, you must download a fresh theme package from ThemeForest and replace the current you have.

    However, before doing an update, I highly recommend creating a backup of your website with the Duplicator plugin.

    As I said I didn't create the website so I'm really hoping I don't need to do anything technical to make this work!

    You do not have to pay for an update, just use the same license key you already have assigned to that website.


    I'm really hoping I don't need to do anything technical to make this work!

    The theme on your website has not been updated for a long time, and there have been many changes since then. Also, you have a child theme installed and active and in our documentation, you can read that we do not cover changes in the child theme. That is also why I recommended creating a backup.

    If after the update you notice any problems or issues, start by switching from a child to parent theme, and if it does not help, disable unsupported plugins. You can find a list of supported plugins here:

    • Okay - i've downloaded the new version but I can't find the license key to register the new version. I can't find the "Click the “License certificate and purchase code” link.

  • Also - I've just done a preview on the new parent update and it will require a lot of work. I'm concerned that this will take a whole new rebuild - and I don't have the time.

    Can i make the change and go back to the child theme? Is it worth trying?

  • The license key is in the same place where you can download the theme package.

    Do you not see it there?

    If your child theme does not generate any issues, then you can keep using it. I only suggested that you disable it if you encounter any functionality issues.

  • I don't have the option to see the license key? Am I missing something?


    I have a very simple website - it's just the visuals and forms which are required. Functionally it does very little.

    It's a shame that the developer I hired went for the child theme. He probably had more flexibility in there.

    I'll have a look through and see if i can make it better visually.

    I still havent' tested changing the home page but I will tomorrow and keep you posted.

    As i said, I don't have the details of the developer any more. He may well have the purchased key?

    My site has moved to a different host, and I've updated the theme - and it seems to have worked!

    I also found the key and updated it on the site.

    It's functional and I can adjust the home page! What a relief!

  • I am loathed to change the theme to parent - there's just too much to do. When I have more time, I will do this. Now isn't the time unfortunately. I also want to move all my pages to BeTheme at some point - as a design tool.
