Template no longer applied by Category

On DreamForgeMagazine.com, we have a custom post type called "stories" that are in the category "issues".

Here's a story page: https://dreamforgemagazine.com/story/the-coven/

This is not using the template.

Here's the same story on the staging site. It looks correct and is using the template:

Staging is using 28.0.6

Production is using 28.1.3. I'm not sure if the issue was introduced in the update from 28.1.2 to 28.1.3. The last time I checked the story pages they were OK, but that was possibly weeks ago.

You made fixes no long ago and that same user/pass is still active.

In the past, this post template worked. It was set for all posts in the category: Issues. (Which included the custom post type of stories.)

But based on what you said, I recreated that same Story Template as a Custom Post Type and that worked. Maybe some update to ACF and custom post types made it break. Or maybe you changed something to specify custom post types that wasn't required before.

But your question helped me figure it out. Thanks.
