Can you edit a theme and then make it live?

We currently have our website up, but we are wanting to change it all. Is it possible to edit a theme without making it live first?

For this, I suggest creating a copy of your website with the Duplicator plugin, put it on the staging domain, and after you finish, move it back to your main domain.
