items are missing from Muffin Builder
several important items are missing from my version of muffin builder.
I cannot just add and image. only an image box with a silly border and zoom.
also the special "section" item is missing as well that will allow me to add content with a background image (<div>)
is my version out of date or am I just not looking in the right place?

we have no idea what you did but this definitely shouldn't happen. We recommend to update WP to recent 4.3 version and also please update theme files to latest 9.3 version. But please update all theme files via FTP because it's the safest way.
