Hi there,

I have activate sidebars on both sides of the page but how do I make the sidebars each have their own unique widgets and content? 

I cannot seem to find how to add things on the left hand sidebar and then different things on the right hand sidebar.

Hi,

all widgets for sidebars can be set under Appearance > Widgets section.

Yes I know that. How do I distinguish between sidebar left and sidebar right in the widgets section?

In this section you can't. While you create/edit pages, you can set which one is one left and which is right.
