Excerpt on home page

Hi, I'm looking to put a blog post excerpt on the home page - that would call the most recent post from a particular blog category. I would be putting it in the school theme in the first div (of three under the slider) with a read more link. Can you let me know please how this can be done. If I had the code I could style it myself.

    Hi,

    you can only display posts on homepage or you can use one of the blog items. In 1st case, you need to leave "Front page" field empty but in 2nd case, you just need to use one of the blog items on site. Only these 2 ways allow you to display posts on pages.
