macronised fonts not working (example = ā)

Hi there

I am trying to display letters like ā on our client's website (https://www.spectrumcare.org.nz) however if they are used within the betheme page editor the whole page saves blank and you can't go back to a previous save. If I use the letter within the classic editor it replaces out for a '?'.

The font the site is using is Roboto, the regular version of Roboto includes ā but I tried adding the subset latin-ext - this made no difference.

I have disabled all of the plugins and the same thing happens

BeTheme and Wordpress are the latest versions

At the moment we have all of the letters that should be macronised set as standard letters so they can display

Would really appreciate some help

Please disable all of the plugins, clear the cache of your browser and check if the issue still exists.

Also, send us a link to the page, where you have inserted only the macronised text.

Hi there

Thanks for having a look at this.

I have disabled plugins and emptied the cache - no change.

(I can't leave the plugins disabled as it is a working site.)

However as soon as I saved the page, the heading ā changed to ?, if I refresh the edit view after saving, all macronised letters have changed to ?

We found it!

This was caused by your database type. We had to change the formating to encoded. This option is shown in theme options>global>advanced.

Sorry, to modify the last statement, if I use the Betheme page editor rather than the gutenburg block editor it works!

Is there a way to make it work in both editors or will this be as good as it gets?

Hey,

this must be becuse of your settings to the database.

We have changed only the type of database formating to encoded, but this applies to the Muffin Builder and Theme options mainly. The Gutenberg editor is saved by Wordpress and we cannot change it.

You can test on a theme like "twentytwenty" to be sure that this is not the theme fault.

We would suggest contacting with your hosting provided about that.
