Issue Activating Latest Betheme Version

Hello,

I recently purchased the latest version of Betheme because the version installed on my website was very old and outdated.

Following the instructions provided, I uploaded the new theme files to my hosting via FileZilla. However, when I try to activate the theme (or specifically the child theme Betheme Child – Version 1.0.0 by Cosimo Malcangio) from the WordPress dashboard, the website stops working and becomes inaccessible.

To make the website work again, I have to switch back to one of the default WordPress themes.

My goal was simply to update the theme since the previous version had become obsolete.

Could you please help me understand what might be causing this issue and how I can properly activate the updated theme?

Best regards

  • Hi,

What happens when you activate just the parent theme not the child theme?

  • Hi Phil,

    Thank you for your reply.

I tried activating both the theme and the child theme. In both cases, WordPress shows a critical error immediately after activation and the website becomes inaccessible.

Previously, the website was using a very old version of the theme and it was working only with PHP 7.4. Because of that, I tried changing the PHP version several times from the hosting panel (including newer versions) to see if the issue could be related to PHP compatibility.

I also tried performing several tests with the new theme files already installed, but every time I activate either the original Betheme (parent theme) or the Betheme Child theme I just purchased, WordPress immediately goes into a critical error.

To troubleshoot, I also disabled all plugins to check if any plugin could be causing the issue, but the problem still occurs. So it seems the issue is related only to the theme activation.

Regarding the installation, I carefully followed the instructions: I uploaded the theme files directly through the hosting File Manager / FileZilla, as indicated in the documentation.

At the moment, the only way to make the website work again is to switch back to a default WordPress theme.

Please let me know if you need error logs, WordPress version, PHP version, or any other information to help identify the problem.

    Best regards

    Stefano
